Bilateral Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Holy See
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Holy See were established on May 23, 1992.
On November 22, 2021, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, signed the decree establishing the Embassy of Azerbaijan to the Holy See.
On October 17, 2022, H.E. Mr. Ilgar Mukhtarov was appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to the Holy See.
On January 14, 2023, H.E. Mr. Ilgar Mukhtarov presented his letters of credence to Pope Francis.
